Col Bhat has in his typical articulate way highlighted some important aspects of defence, which need to be studied and acted upon by the planeers and implementing agencies.

Dear Hariharan ji, The Bofors incident in 1985 has paralyzed defence procurement process and responsible to large extent for vintage equipment of Indian military. In this scenario do you not think that Defence Ministry must be led by mpre proactive Raksha Mantri in mould of Home Minister P.Chidambaram who is both intelligent, competent and systematic,. 15 years of backlog with decadent, corrupt and creaking defence procurement system with procurement cycle of 15 years should be made thing of the past. otherwise with vintage equipment how can we even dream of taking on Indian and Chinese forces in case of War?is there not a case for more young technologically, savvy middle rank and young officers to overhaul the system? Is it not shocking that 80% of Idnian tanks are night bling and calims are made in media that indigenous Arjun tank is being overlooked against expensive upgradation of T90 tanks to fill coffers of corrupt few? What could be a realistic solution to clean the Augean stables instead of hand wringing? Warm Regards Ram Ram

Your view does hold ground. But the article has intermingled leniency and loopholes. You are saying that an act passed to include special cases, where the accused would otherwise escape through loopholes is morally wrong. But it is the loopholes that need to be plugged through reforms, not only in law but also in d law enforcement agencies. A competent judge can very well make out d difference between a terrorist n sum1 falsely implicated.

Minister`s Lobbying irks PM
Interesting piece.Couldn`t believe that Dayanidhi Maran could be so vain and servile to the personal interest than the responsibility towards the nation, expecially heading a crucial ministry to solve the problems of the textiles sector and the dependent population in the business.

Though we served in different arms, the Gen and I were together from day 1 in the NDA, adjacent cabins for three of the six terms there. I have seen his work ethos and dedication to duty. He reached these heights very deservedly and we, his course mates are proud of his achievements. His wife, Anita, has been a great support for him. The Gen has given his journey through his service quite simply but lucidly. I wish Anita & him a happy innings, post retirement.

Proud of you Noble. Having known you from June 1965 when we joined NDA, we always knew one day you would be there where it matters in the army. You did not prove us wrong. Best wishes as a Veteran like most of us! Sri

One feels so proud of his achievements and dedication. Superb. Am sure, the past and future contributions would be remembered for long and imbibed by the generations.

It seems the writer is trying to balance his article on BSY by noting few negetives of his carrier - good but not enough. The Worst Contribution of BSY has been ingonred. When BJP emerged as single largest party he inovated a political grimik - buy MLA from oposition, ask him to resign, make him Minister and then ask him to contest on BJP ticket - all this with Reddy money. Now everyone fears that in future almost all politicians shall use this grimic and there shall be one more unethical practice in our democracy. Uusing Reddy`s money has been paid by him and one can take pety on a iron man of Karnataka sheding tears in front of journalist in Delhi.

the best way to speed up the process is to get 100,000 people to gherao parliament when in session until they pass the bill into law.

Remark
It was indeed nice to have a peek into the government functioning through your magazine, dear Mr Editor. At The Times of India Lucknow, we have taken initiative in carrying RTI expose on a regular basis. We were also the first to carry a story on Ram Kumar and can take a modest pride in the fact that the governor acted on the issue. Wish you and your team all the best in the endeavour and looking forward to more such insightful issue from your desk. Regards

Being a regular reader of gfiles, when I started to go through the report KILLING FIELDS OF KAIMUR by Amarendra Kishore, same day the Rohtas police recovered huge cache of ammunition including over 100 kilograms of explosives and 100 detonators at district headquarters Sasaram. Two women activists of the outlawed CPI (Maoist) were arrested. So, report is relevant. Thanks. The district police suspected that the explosives were to be used for exploding the Sasaram jail, where a large number of Maoists are lodged. The explosives were recovered from an area adjacent to the district jail. The recovery of such a huge quantity of explosives indicates towards a big plan of the Maoists. I am cent percent agree with your information that Kaimur cradles the outfits. During the last Lok Sabha polls, the Maoists had attacked a BSF camp in Kaimur hills, in which a jawan was grievously injured. The hilly terrains of Kaimur have been the centre of Maoists activities since late seventies, as it provides safe refuge for the ultras. It also forms part of the Naxal corridor stretching up to Palamu and Garhwa in Jharkhand. The report is eye opening and away from any bias and prejudice. The reporter dared to visit that area, where life has no meaning. ? Divya Ojha, Patna (Bihar)
