When flamboyant film actress Urmila Matondkar was chosen by Congress President Rahul Gandhi to contest from Mumbai North Lok Sabha seat, she told him that she did not have the resources to support the campaign but would be willing to contest if the party can take care of the desired resources. Sources disclosed that Rahul Gandhi took personal interest and assured her that the desired funds will be available to her and the party will take care of other logistics. It sounded good to Urmila. She filed her nomination papers and started her campaign in the hope that funds would be delivered but there was no sign of funds. After a long wait, she telephoned Rahul Gandhi and reminded him of what he had promised. Rahul informed her that the funds had been handed over to Mumbai Congress President Sanjay Nirupam and he even told her the exact amount. Urmila was aghast to hear the amount and informed Rahul that she had only received peanuts. Rahul Gandhi was furious; he enquired from Sanjay but Sanjay could not provide a satisfactory answer. Rahul’s next move was to call Milind Deora and order him to take charge as Mumbai Congress President in the midst of the elections. Urmila now understands that it is not only film producers who ditch the actors but politicians also befool.
