Changing colours

Whenever there is a power shift in Delhi, the bureaucracy makes all effort to shift gears as per the new power equations. Therefore, it was surprising to learn that one of the top investigating agencies’ chief developed a contact with the BJP’s prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi. The sleuth met Modi through a sympathiser of the BJP, a fiery member of the Supreme Court Bar. Naturally, the Congress Party leadership was stunned. How can the top sleuth dare to shake hands with the opposition leader, and that too Modi, while still serving under the current dispensation? Clearly, the man derives his power from the post and the powers that be can’t do a damn. But, let us not forget, the government has its own mechanisms of dealing with such officials, or those who change colour much before the time. The Congress dug out details of sleuth’s business partner. The alleged partner is a rich meat exporter. Next, the meat exporters’ house was raided by income tax officials. Subsequently, it is learnt that there is an eerie silence in the sleuth’s office.
