WHEN Narendra Modi is not visible on social networking sites, what is he doing in South Block? Perhaps Modi does not want to disclose the genuine effort that goes into managing policy issues. Modi talks to the whole government through video conferencing on the Wednesday of the last week of every month. Sources say that all Secretaries and Chief Secretaries of the States have to be in attendance for the conference. The video conference mainly functions as an on-the-spot decisionmaking body. As Chief Minister of Gujarat, Modi employed such video conferencing to reach out to District Magistrates and Secretaries. Technology has made it possible to interact across India while sitting in a room. Modi enquires of the Chief Secretaries about pending agenda and the reason for delay. It is learnt that he speaks with impeccable authority to the Secretaries and asks them to clear the files within the stipulated time-frame. South Block sources disclose that in these meetings, the Prime Minister draws up the agenda for the next meeting and asks officers to implement and report their progress in the next video conference. Secretaries who have attended these conferences say it has speeded up the work and has done away with red tape. Who says Modi is not working?
