NARENDRA Modi is very cautious since he has taken oath as Prime Minister of the country. He understands that people will try to approach him using all the possible means at their disposal. Recently, an old acquaintance from Shimla contacted him for some personal favour for a close friend. In Shimla, Modi had stayed with the man’s family when he was in charge of Haryana and Himachal Pradesh as General Secretary. Modi received the call personally and talked to the person and asked him about his and his family’s well-being. The person requested a meeting. Modi asked as to what job he wanted done. The person said he could not explain on the phone. Modi informed him that he was busy and would let him know when he was available. The person in Shimla is still waiting for the appointment. The moral of the story is that any acquaintance who cannot brief him on the phone means he is pushing somebody’s case and Modi understands this trick of the trade very well. (The name of the place has been changed to hide the identity of the person as he does not want it to be known.)
